Enclosed speed for serious makers.

Our verdict

The P1S is the serious maker's choice: enclosed, filtered, fast, and fully multi-color capable. It costs more than the A1 and lacks a touchscreen, but for engineering filaments and long print sessions it is the better machine. Buy it if you print ABS or ASA, or want the full AMS experience.

What we like

  • Enclosed chamber handles ABS and ASA well
  • Same 500 mm/s performance as the flagship line
  • Full AMS support for up to 16 colors

What to watch out for

  • No touchscreen, controlled via app or dial
  • Louder than open-frame printers
  • Heavier and less portable

Who it is for

Experienced hobbyists, small businesses, and makers printing functional parts in engineering filaments.

Design and build

The P1S is a fully enclosed CoreXY machine with an activated carbon filter and an all-round cooling fan. The enclosure keeps chamber temperatures stable for warp-prone filaments and contains fumes and noise. Control is via a dial and small screen plus the excellent app and desktop software.

Print quality and speed

Performance matches the flagship X1 line closely at up to 500 mm/s. The enclosure visibly improves ABS and ASA results versus open printers. Full AMS support enables up to 16 colors with automatic filament switching, a genuine production capability for small runs.

Value

The P1S is a premium purchase, but it replaces what used to require heavy modification: enclosure, filtration, and multi-color. For makers who print daily, the reliability pays for itself in failed-print savings.

What owners report

Commonly praised

  • Enclosed design handles ABS and PETG well
  • Reliable, fast printing out of the box
  • Works well with the AMS multi-color system

Common complaints

  • Some owners report hardware error codes within the first weeks
  • US support can be slow to escalate problems
  • Default profiles are tuned mainly for PLA and the stock nozzle

Questions, answered

P1S vs X1 Carbon: what is the difference?

The X1 Carbon adds lidar calibration, a touchscreen, and hardened components. For most users the P1S prints nearly as well for meaningfully less money.

Do I need the AMS?

Only for multi-color or multi-material printing. The P1S is excellent as a single-color workhorse; add the AMS when color becomes a real need.

How effective is the carbon filter?

It reduces odors and particulates from filaments like ABS, but it is not a substitute for ventilation. Print high-emission filaments in a ventilated space.
