The Husqvarna Automower 115H is the best robot lawn mower for most people: 0.4-acre coverage, 40 percent slope handling, and dealer support you can actually call. For quarter-acre lawns, the Worx Landroid WR140 adds Wi-Fi scheduling and a rain sensor for less. Small, neighbor-close yards suit the whisper-quiet Gardena Sileno Minimo, and half-acre lots need the Robomow RK2000.

Best overall

Husqvarna Automower 115H

The proven workhorse with the deepest service network in the category.

Husqvarna Automower 115H
The strongest combination of coverage (0.4 acres), slope handling (40 percent grade), and long-term serviceability through Husqvarna's dealer network.

Strengths

  • Rated for up to 0.4 acres with an 8.7-inch cutting width and 2 to 3.6-inch cutting height range.
  • Handles slopes up to 40 percent grade (about 22 degrees), among the best in its class.
  • Husqvarna's dealer network means parts and service are easy to find years later.

Limitations

  • Uses a boundary wire for navigation, so installation takes real effort on complex yards.
  • Bluetooth-only app control means no remote control or theft tracking from away from home.
  • At 23.2 pounds it is heavier than most competitors, which matters if you ever need to lift it.

What owners report

Commonly praised

  • Quiet, reliable mowing for simple lawns
  • Cuts well and keeps grass tidy
  • Handles rain and moderate slopes

Common complaints

  • Boundary wire installation takes several hours
  • No GPS on the base model
  • Dealer-based support can be slow

Best value

Worx Landroid WR140

Smart scheduling and app control at a mid-range price.

Worx Landroid WR140
Wi-Fi app control, rain sensing, and a low 0.8-inch minimum cut at a mid-range price. Right-sized for quarter-acre lawns.

Strengths

  • Wi-Fi plus Bluetooth app control with scheduling, mowing zones, and over-the-air firmware updates.
  • Built-in rain sensor sends the mower back to its base when it starts raining.
  • Cutting height adjusts from 0.8 to 2 inches, lower than most competitors for a manicured look.

Limitations

  • Rated for only a quarter acre, so it is undersized for larger suburban lots.
  • 7-inch cutting width is narrow, which means more passes and longer total mow time.
  • Max slope of 20 degrees rules out steep banks and drainage swales.

What owners report

Commonly praised

  • Affordable robotic mowing
  • Handles rain well
  • Modular add-ons available

Common complaints

  • Can get stuck or cut its own boundary wire
  • Wi-Fi setup issues reported

Best for small yards

Gardena Sileno Minimo 500

The quietest robot mower you can buy, built for smaller lawns.

Gardena Sileno Minimo 500
At 57 to 58 dB(A) it is the quietest mower here, and the systematic SensorCut pattern suits small, neighbor-close lawns.

Strengths

  • Rated around 57 to 58 dB(A), the quietest operating noise in the category, quieter than normal conversation.
  • SensorCut system mows in a systematic pattern rather than random bouncing, for even coverage.
  • Frost sensor pauses mowing in freezing conditions to protect the grass.

Limitations

  • 5,400 square foot limit makes it strictly a small-yard mower.
  • 6.3-inch cutting width is the narrowest of our picks, so large open areas take longer.
  • Bluetooth-only app means you control it from the yard, not from work.

What owners report

Commonly praised

  • Compact and very quiet
  • Handles slopes and narrow passages
  • Mows in light rain

Common complaints

  • Best for small lawns only
  • Boundary wire setup takes time
  • Accessories such as a garage cost extra

Robomow RK2000

The flagship: 1.25 acres with the highest cut in the Automower line.

NavigationBoundary wire with GPS-assisted

Best for: Estate-size lawns up to 1.25 acres where a smaller mower would run all day.
Skip if: Your lawn is under half an acre; this is far more mower than you need.

Best budget Husqvarna

Husqvarna Automower 305

The entry Husqvarna: dealer-grade quality for smaller lawns.

The 305 brings Husqvarna build quality and dealer support to lawns under 0.2 acres. Same 40 percent slope handling as the 115H in a smaller, cheaper package.

Strengths

  • Rated for up to 0.2 acres (about 8,700 square feet)
  • Handles slopes up to 40 percent grade like its bigger siblings
  • Same Husqvarna dealer network and parts availability

Limitations

Half-acre Landroid with Wi-Fi smarts and a wider cut.

Worx Landroid WR155 (L 20V)

Half-acre coverage with Wi-Fi scheduling at a mid-range price undercuts the premium brands. The 20-degree slope limit is the honest constraint to check.

Strengths

  • Rated for up to half an acre, double the WR140
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth app control with zones and scheduling
  • Wider cutting path than the smaller Landroid models

Limitations

  • Max slope of 20 degrees rules out steep banks

Best mid-size quiet mower

Gardena Sileno Life 750

The mid-size quiet one: 8,000 square feet of systematic mowing.

Gardena Sileno Life 750

8,000 square feet of systematic SensorCut mowing with Gardena's quiet operation. Fills the gap between the Minimo and the big premium mowers.

Strengths

  • Rated for 750 square meters (about 8,000 square feet)
  • SensorCut systematic mowing pattern for even coverage
  • Quiet operation like the smaller Minimo, rated for suburban mornings

Limitations

Best wire-free for small lawns

Segway Navimow i105N

Wire-free GPS mowing for small lawns: no boundary wire to bury.

Segway Navimow i105N

RTK GPS navigation eliminates the boundary wire entirely on lawns up to 1/8 acre. Virtual boundaries redraw in the app instead of with a shovel.

Strengths

  • RTK GPS navigation means zero boundary wire installation
  • Rated for 500 square meters (about 1/8 acre)
  • App-based virtual boundaries you can redraw anytime

Limitations

  • Needs clear sky view; dense tree cover degrades GPS accuracy
  • Small cutting width and coverage limit it to small lawns
  • Premium price for the wire-free convenience
Key specifications for Segway Navimow i105N
Max lawn size1/8 acre (500 sq m)
NavigationRTK GPS, wire-free
Cutting width7.1 in
Cutting height0.8 to 2.4 in
Max slope30% grade

Best for: Small lawns up to 1/8 acre where you refuse to install a boundary wire.
Skip if: You have heavy tree cover that blocks GPS signals.

Best for steep slopes

Mammotion LUBA 2 AWD 1000

All-wheel drive and an 80 percent slope rating: the hill specialist.

Mammotion LUBA 2 AWD 1000

All-wheel drive and an 80 percent slope rating are in a different league from every other mower here. For steep yards, nothing else is close.

Strengths

  • All-wheel drive climbs up to 80 percent grade (38 degrees), unmatched in the category
  • Wire-free RTK navigation with multi-zone management in the app
  • Rated for 1,000 square meters (about a quarter acre)

Limitations

  • Premium price for the AWD and wire-free combination
  • Heavy unit that is awkward to lift over obstacles
  • Newer brand with a shorter service history than Husqvarna
Key specifications for Mammotion LUBA 2 AWD 1000
Max lawn size1/4 acre (1,000 sq m)
NavigationRTK GPS, wire-free
Max slope80% grade (38 degrees)
DriveAll-wheel drive
Cutting height1.0 to 2.8 in

Best for: Steep, complex yards up to a quarter acre that wire mowers cannot handle.
Skip if: Your yard is flat and simple; AWD is wasted on it.

How we chose

Coverage area, honestly measured

We used the manufacturer's rated lawn size and then discounted mentally for complex yards: narrow passages, islands of flower beds, and slopes all shrink effective coverage. Buy more capacity than your lot size suggests.

Slope capability

Grades are the number one reason robot mowers fail in real yards. We weighted maximum slope heavily because a mower that cannot climb your bank is useless no matter how smart its app is.

Boundary system

Every pick here uses a boundary wire, which is more work to install but more reliable than early wire-free RTK systems. Wire means the mower cannot get lost, though it does mean a weekend of setup.

Noise

Because these mowers run for hours on schedules that include early mornings, operating noise is a real neighbor-relations factor. The Gardena's 57 dB(A) rating is meaningfully quieter than the category norm.

Questions, answered

Are robot lawn mowers worth it?

For the right yard, yes. They cut a little every day, which keeps grass at a consistent height and mulches fine clippings back into the turf. They do not handle tall, overgrown grass well, so they replace weekly mowing, not seasonal cleanup. Steep slopes, very rough terrain, and tiny fragmented lawns are poor fits.

How hard is it to install the boundary wire?

Expect a weekend afternoon for an average yard: you lay the wire around the perimeter and around beds and obstacles, peg it down, and let the grass grow over it within a few weeks. Complex yards with many islands take longer. All four of our picks use boundary wire rather than wire-free navigation.

Can robot mowers handle slopes?

It depends on the model. The Husqvarna 115H handles up to 40 percent grade, while the Worx WR140 tops out at 20 degrees. Measure your steepest bank before buying, and note that wet grass on a slope is harder to climb than dry grass, so leave margin.

Do robot mowers work in the rain?

Most have rain sensors that send them home, and mowing wet grass is bad for the lawn anyway since it clumps and can spread disease. The Gardena Sileno Minimo goes further with a frost sensor that pauses mowing in freezing weather.
