Bluetooth Speaker Not Working? 4 Fixes (2026)
Bluetooth speaker won't pair, no sound, or won't charge? Four common causes and how to fix each.
Most Bluetooth speaker problems come down to pairing state, volume routing, or charging. Work through these four fixes before assuming hardware failure.
Speaker won't appear in Bluetooth list
Put the speaker in pairing mode explicitly (usually a long-press on the Bluetooth button until it blinks). If it still does not appear, forget the speaker on your phone and restart both devices, then try again. Move within a few feet for the first pairing.
Connected but no sound
Check three volumes: phone media volume, speaker volume, and in-app volume. Also confirm audio is routing to the speaker and not to earbuds still in your ears or a previously connected device that auto-reconnected.
Speaker won't charge
Try a different cable and a wall adapter rather than a laptop USB port. Clean lint from the charging port with a wooden toothpick. If the battery is deeply discharged, leave it plugged in for 30 minutes before expecting signs of life.
Sound is distorted or cutting out
Move the phone closer and remove obstacles; Bluetooth struggles through bodies of water (including human bodies) and thick walls. Lower the volume slightly, as distortion at max volume is normal. If one app stutters but others do not, the issue is the app, not the speaker.
Questions, answered
Why does my speaker disconnect randomly?
Usually interference or range. Keep the phone within 30 feet with line of sight, and move away from microwaves and crowded Wi-Fi environments.
How do I reset my Bluetooth speaker?
Most models reset with a long-press combination (often power plus volume down for 10 seconds). Check the manual for your model, as combinations vary by brand.
