Our verdict

The DCBL722 is the right blower for exactly one buyer: the DeWalt 20V Max owner. At 450 CFM brushless it is genuinely capable, and as a bare tool it is excellent value. The trade-off is that 450 CFM is mid-pack here, and buying into the platform from scratch for this blower alone makes no financial sense. Platform first, blower second.

What we like

  • Up to 450 CFM from the 20V Max XR platform: genuinely capable for driveways, decks, and moderate leaf fall
  • Brushless motor for better efficiency and longer service life than brushed equivalents
  • Flat concentrator nozzle included for stuck-on debris alongside the standard tube

What to watch out for

  • 450 CFM trails the EGO's 650 meaningfully on heavy wet leaves
  • Best runtime needs the larger 5Ah+ XR batteries, which add weight and cost if bought separately
  • As a bare tool it is a great deal; as a full kit for non-DeWalt owners it is not

Who it is for

Existing DeWalt 20V Max battery owners.

450 CFM brushless: what it does

DeWalt rates the DCBL722 at up to 450 CFM with a brushless motor. Brushless matters here: higher efficiency than brushed motors means more of the battery's energy becomes airflow, and the motor itself lasts longer with no brushes to wear. 450 CFM handles driveways, decks, patios, and moderate leaf fall confidently; it works harder on heavy wet piles than the 650 CFM EGO.

The variable trigger with speed lock is well executed: set your cruising speed and hold it without finger fatigue, then squeeze for bursts.

The battery math

As a bare tool, the DCBL722 is one of the best values in battery blowers: no battery cost, just the tool. Pair it with 5Ah or larger XR batteries you already own for the best runtime; small 2Ah packs will feel anemic. If you own zero DeWalt batteries, the kit price pushes you into EGO territory, where 650 CFM beats 450 CFM for similar money. The platform discount is real but only applies if you already paid it.

How it stacks up

Against the EGO Power+ LB6504, the DeWalt loses on airflow (450 vs 650 CFM) but wins on ecosystem breadth: DeWalt's 20V Max line covers hundreds of tools beyond yard equipment, while EGO is yard-focused. Against the Toro PowerJet F700, the DeWalt loses on CFM per dollar badly (450 cordless vs 725 corded) but wins on mobility and noise. The DeWalt's case rests entirely on batteries you already own.

Nozzles and ergonomics

The included flat concentrator nozzle is genuinely useful for stuck-on debris, mulch bits, and gutter-adjacent work where the standard tube's broad stream is too diffuse. Balance is good for a 20V tool with a 5Ah pack; it is lighter than the EGO with its big 56V battery, which matters in longer sessions.

Questions, answered

Is the DeWalt DCBL722 good for leaves?

Yes for dry to moderate leaf fall: 450 CFM moves leaves well on lawns, driveways, and decks. Heavy wet piles are its limit; that is EGO or Toro territory. For routine fall cleanup on a typical suburban lot, it is plenty.

Which battery is best for the DCBL722?

5Ah or larger XR packs. They deliver the current the brushless motor wants for sustained high output and meaningfully extend runtime over compact 2Ah batteries. The FlexVolt batteries also work and add runtime.

Bare tool or kit?

Bare tool if you own 20V Max batteries, without question. Kit only if you are starting a DeWalt collection and want the blower plus batteries; compare the kit price against the EGO before committing.
