Mic Arm or Mount Problems? 4 Fixes (2026)

Boom arm sagging, creaking, or mount not fitting? Four common accessory problems and fixes.

Accessory problems are mechanical and usually fixable. These are the four we hear about most.

Boom arm sags under the mic

The mic exceeds the arm's weight rating or tension is loose. Check the rating first. Many arms have tension adjustments at the joints; tighten gradually until it holds.

Arm creaks when moved

Cheap arms creak from exposed springs. A drop of silicone lubricant on pivot points helps temporarily. For recording work, upgrading to an internal-spring arm is the real fix.

Shock mount does not fit the mic

Measure your mic's diameter and compare to the mount's range. Adapters exist for odd sizes, but a mount designed for your mic always works better.

Pop filter droops

Goosenecks weaken over time. Reposition with a sharper bend near the clamp for better leverage, or replace the gooseneck section.

Questions, answered

Can I wall-mount a boom arm?

Yes with the right bracket, but desk clamps suit most setups and are easier to reposition.

How do I clean a pop filter?

Remove the mesh and wash gently with mild soap, air dry completely before use.
