Pet Camera Problems and Fixes (2026)

Common pet camera problems solved: Wi-Fi drops, treat jams, false alerts, and night vision issues.

Pet cameras fail in a handful of predictable ways, and nearly all of them trace to Wi-Fi, treats, or alert tuning rather than broken hardware. Work through these four fixes before assuming the camera is defective.

The camera keeps disconnecting from Wi-Fi

Move the camera closer to the router or add a Wi-Fi extender: pet cameras live on the 2.4 GHz band, which is crowded and weak at distance. In the router settings, give the 2.4 GHz network its own SSID so the camera does not get steered to 5 GHz and drop. If disconnects persist at close range, check for firmware updates; several 2024-era disconnect bugs were fixed in updates owners never installed.

The treat dispenser jams

Empty the hopper and switch to small, round, hard treats; soft, sticky, or irregular treats are the cause of nearly every jam. Shake the hopper to settle bridging, where treats arch over the dispenser throat. Clean crumbs from the launch mechanism monthly with a dry cloth. If jams persist with correct treats, the dispenser throat may have a manufacturing defect, contact support.

I get motion alerts every few minutes

Open the detection zone settings and mask windows, TVs, and high-contrast areas where light changes trigger events. Lower the sensitivity one notch and raise the cooldown between alerts. On cameras with pet-specific detection, enable it: bark or pet alerts replace generic motion alerts and cut noise dramatically. Expect a week of tuning; out-of-box settings are tuned for security, not pets.

Night vision is blurry or washed out

Washed-out night vision usually means the camera faces a reflective surface: a window, mirror, or glossy wall bounces the infrared back into the lens. Reposition so the IR illuminators face into the room, not at glass. For blur, wipe the lens; pet cameras collect nose prints and dust. If the image is dark beyond a few feet, the room is simply too large for the IR range, add a small night light, which also lets color night vision sensors like the Wyze's work in color.

Questions, answered

Why does two-way talk have a delay?

Cloud relay adds one to three seconds of latency to two-way audio on most pet cameras. It is normal, not a defect. Speak in short phrases and pause; talking over the delay creates the echo owners complain about.

The camera works but the app will not load video. What now?

Force-close and reopen the app first; stale app sessions cause most loading failures. Then check whether other devices on the same network load video, which isolates phone versus camera issues. Reinstalling the app fixes corrupted caches that survive updates.
