Streaming Accessories Not Working? Fixes (2026)

Fix common streaming accessory problems: capture card no signal, webcam focus hunting, Stream Deck not detected, and green screen keying artifacts.

Streaming gear fails at the worst moments, usually mid-broadcast. These are the most common failures for capture cards, webcams, controllers, and green screens, with the fixes that resolve them in order of likelihood.

Capture card shows no signal

First, disable HDCP on your console, since HDCP blocks all capture. Next, confirm the card is on a true USB 3.0 port; front-panel ports on some cases underdeliver power and bandwidth, so try a rear motherboard port. Finally, check that your HDMI cables are seated and rated for the signal you are passing.

Webcam keeps hunting for focus

Lock focus manually in your camera software if autofocus cannot settle, which often happens in low light. Add a key light on your face; autofocus systems need contrast to work, and dim rooms starve them. As a last resort, increase the camera's exposure time slightly rather than gain, which adds noise that confuses focus further.

Stream Deck not detected by software

Try a different USB port, preferably directly on the motherboard rather than a hub, since underpowered hubs are the most common cause. Restart the Stream Deck software with administrator rights on Windows. If keys show but plugins fail, update both the software and the plugin; version mismatches break integrations silently.

Green screen keys with artifacts and spill

Light the panel evenly and separately from yourself; hotspots and shadows are the top cause of bad keys. Pull the panel's wrinkles flat, since every crease is a keying artifact. In OBS, use the chroma key filter's similarity and smoothness sliders gradually rather than cranking one, and add a small amount of spill reduction if green fringes your hair or shoulders.

Questions, answered

Why does my capture look fine in preview but stutter on stream?

That is an encoding problem, not a capture problem. Your PC cannot encode the feed fast enough; lower your output resolution, switch to hardware encoding like NVENC, or close background apps eating CPU.

My stream audio drifts out of sync with the capture card. Why?

Capture cards introduce small latency that OBS does not auto-correct. Add a sync offset to the capture source in OBS audio settings, usually in the tens of milliseconds, until lips match sound.
